Days 1&2 (Sunday 5/29 - Monday 5/30)

Finally our long awaited trip to see the passion play was about to begin.  We first began planning this trip in 2018 to attend it in 2020.  Then Covid hit and we all know how that turned out.  The play was rescheduled for 2022, so we moved our reservations to 2022.  Only this time we wouldn't be doing it by motorcycle; we'd fly to Munich and catch the train to Oberammergau and spend a week there. We also had the scare of not being able to make the trip because we had contracted Covid 12 days earlier.  But my doctor gave us Letters of Recovery so that even if we continued to test positive, we could still return to the US.  Our symptoms were quite mild as we were fully vaccinated.

Our Lufthansa flight 491 A-330 flight left before the scheduled 2:20pm departure and for the first time we were assigned seats before we reached SeaTac airport.  The 10 hour flight went super smoothly although neither of us slept much.  Upon arrival in Frankfurt we cleared immigration without any showing of our vaccine status. We waited for our next flight and learned that it was oversold as were the next several.  So we switched plans and caught a train to Munich for about $75 each. It departed at 1:30pm and was projected to be a 6 hour journey.

We had seats for about an hour and then had to give them up to passengers who reserved them.  We then stood for an hour until we snagged seat at Wurtsburg for the rest of the journey.  It was fun to see the train hit 126mph! At Munich we changed trains and again at Murnau.  I texted our host and he, Harold, offered to pick us up at the train station.  We arrived at 7:19 and met him and were whisked to the cutest AirBnB we've ever stayed in.  He recommended a local hotel for dinner and we enjoyed it.  By that time we had been up 36 hours, and I was getting punchy.  Sleep came fast and we ended our two travel days.
