Day 6 (Friday - 6/03 - Travel Day)

The 6:30am alarm came early, but we had a 7am breakfast reservation.  As we ate, we chatted with Christine (she's very chatty). We then checked out and made our way to the train station.  We were early, and the regional train number 63 was right on time.  After a 45 minute ride we transferred in Murnau and after another hour we were at the Munich main station.  We had trouble finding the train to the airport but finally succeeded. That ride was 45 minutes.     At the airport, things began to unwind.  I already knew our planned flight to Vancouver was problematic and it took 1/2 an hour to kiosk check in for that flight.  We grabbed a quick McDonald's lunch and I found there was a flight to America via Chicago that appeared to have space on it. So I booked it, but the app  would not check me in.  So I went to the kiosk, waited in line there 25 minutes, spent 1/2 hour trying to check in before the machine timed out and I lost all the data entry.  So then we joine

Day 5 (Thursday - 6/02)

Despite another poor night sleeping we got up for our 8:30am included breakfast.  It was a yummy start to the day with a cold cut and cheese sandwich, orange juice, and yummy tea.     Once again we headed out walking and went to the Covid test facility.  The tester encouraged us to return later during the break in the performance. I didn't want to argue that for us the test's clock time didn't matter.  It just had to be the day before.     Back in town, we found a nice Balkan restaurant where I had bratwurst and sauerkraut while Angela had a salad.  Both were yummy.  Then it was time for more walking, people watching and time for Angela to enjoy some ice cream.     The play started at 2, so we went through the mandatory pat down an hour early when there was no line and found a nice table and chairs to relax at until we could enter the venue. The hour went by and soon our tickets were scanned and we found our seats which were in the first row just to the le

Day 4 (Wednesday - 6/01)

Today we switched lodging locations.  After another challenging night sleeping, we got up around 9am and prepared for our day.  We moved out of our sleeping location and occupied the cute little hut where we fixed a simple breakfast of yogurt & a banana and some tea. Our hosts let us hang out until our next accommodations were ready.  Just after 11am we checked out and had a very pleasant last conversation with our hosts and then walked into town to our next lodging site.     At our new lodging, the owner/proprietor, Christine, checked us in and we got room #1 on floor #1 which is one flight above the ground level. We rested a bit before going out exploring once more.  We bought some souvenir t-shirts and some other small items.  We walked to the last remaining grocery store, Vmarkt.  It was a bit more expensive than the other three, but it also had a large dry goods section.     On the walk back to town, we checked out a Covid testing facility and learned a rapid

Day 3 (Tuesday - 5/31)

Despite being tired, I didn't sleep well.  The first stretch was about 4 hours and then I was awake and asleep for the next 6-7 hours.  We finally got up around 9am and headed off to walk to the local grocery stores which are located by the train station.  We took a path along the river and 30 minutes later we were at the Lidl, a Müller drug store, Netto, and Edeka.  The other three stores are grocery stores and Lidl is our favorite from prior trips.     At the Edeka we purchased  provisions for a picnic lunch and ate it at picnic facilities in front of the store.  Afterwards we spent much of the rest of the day walking around downtown shopping and taking in the sights.  We also walked back to the grocery store to pick up provisions for dinner at our AirBnB.     The walk back was in a light rain and we cooked up a nice dinner of Tuna Salad, Olives, and fried chicken pieces.  It was yummy!  And so ended day 3.

Days 1&2 (Sunday 5/29 - Monday 5/30)

Finally our long awaited trip to see the passion play was about to begin.  We first began planning this trip in 2018 to attend it in 2020.  Then Covid hit and we all know how that turned out.  The play was rescheduled for 2022, so we moved our reservations to 2022.  Only this time we wouldn't be doing it by motorcycle; we'd fly to Munich and catch the train to Oberammergau and spend a week there. We also had the scare of not being able to make the trip because we had contracted Covid 12 days earlier.  But my doctor gave us Letters of Recovery so that even if we continued to test positive, we could still return to the US.  Our symptoms were quite mild as we were fully vaccinated.     Our Lufthansa flight 491 A-330 flight left before the scheduled 2:20pm departure and for the first time we were assigned seats before we reached SeaTac airport.  The 10 hour flight went super smoothly although neither of us slept much.  Upon arrival in Frankfurt we cleared immigrati
